Mr. Ozga's practice involves the prosecution and litigation of all intellectual property matters, including licensing, patent validity and infringement opinions, and the preparation and prosecution of patents, trademarks and copyrights.
He has prosecuted patents for chemical and biotechnology inventions including antiviral peptides, hypoallergenic wash solutions, fuel cells and the chemical and mechanical processes of making semiconductor wafers. His prosecution of mechanical patents includes medical implant devices, medical casting devices, and automotive inventions such as door actuators, engine valves and power supply devices.
Additionally Mr. Ozga has been involved in the prosecution of complex patent cases involving reissues, reexaminations and appeals. While most patent attorneys only see one or two reissue or reexamination cases in their career, Mr. Ozga has prosecuted several of these complex cases.
He has also performed many investigations and drafted many opinions regarding non-infringement and patent validity. In particular his philosophy regarding the investigation into the validity of patents is to explore all possible avenues for prior art. His "no stone left unturned" approach to investigating issues of patent infringement has enabled his clients to continue doing business with confidence when they initially thought that their business would be disrupted because of competitor's patents.
Mr. Ozga's experiences also include numerous lawsuits involving patents, copyrights, Lanham Act claims (i.e., trademarks, unfair competition etc.) and trade secret claims. He has litigated matters involving copyrighted manuals, building plans and home decorations, Lanham Act claims involving company trademarks and trade dress, and trade secret claims. Mr. Ozga has represented both the Appellant and the Appellee in cases before the United States District Court for the Sixth Circuit.
His professional experience prior to joining the firm of Warn Partners P.C. includes a patent clerk position at the firm of Young & Basile, and practical experience in the area of genetics while working as a research assistant at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. While at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Mr. Ozga worked with a team of researchers to prepare cDNA libraries derived from human tissues.
Mr. Ozga is a registered Patent Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and a member of the State Bar of Michigan. He has been admitted to practice before the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
He is a member of the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association (MIPLA), the American Bar Association, and the Intellectual Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
Mr. Ozga is also a member of the Automation Alley Consortium, an organization dedicated to promoting the development of technology companies in Michigan. He has served on the New Member sub-committee for this organization since January 2003.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Albion College. While at Albion College, he concentrated his studies on the areas of biochemistry and biotechnology. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Michigan State University Detroit College of Law, where he served as Vice-President of the Federalist Society and was named in the 2001 edition of "Who's Who of America's Law Students".
